Developing Images
How can we develop our own shapes and explore colors? Each color serves as a shape on top of another color, and a background behind a color. This collage system explores the illusion of space and color in the figure ground. This is inspired by Kazimir Malevich's works.

Process
About 20 sheets of letter-sized paper were hand-dyed in tints and tones of Pink, and then Purple. Later, Yellow was hand dyed on smaller sheets to serve as the tertiary spot color in the foreground.
I took a few photographs of patterns or shapes I saw out in the city. From 25 images, I shortlisted 8 and printed them out. The hand-dyed sheets were then cut out in different forms using an x-acto knife.

Progress of Abstraction
The development of the collages started by cutting out 2d shapes and aligning them while keeping in mind the background, middle-ground, and foreground. My shapes are inspired by Kazimir Malevich's works.
The photographs were used as a visual reference for the abstraction and placement of the shapes.

Poster
A Jazz poster for Louis Armstrong was developed using the collages. This was done by scanning the collages and further blending them into various layers on Photoshop. The final outcome was the poster below.
